My Favorite NYC Bakeries! Part Two: Mille-Feuille
When I’ve travel to New York City alone, I always stay in a tiny studio apartment about a half-block from Central Park on the Upper West Side. The neighborhood is filled with locally owned restaurants, shops, and cafes. I’ve rarely gone wrong ducking into a new place and sitting down to enjoy a meal. I’ve actually discovered some of my …Read the full blog post
I needed help coordinating a day in NYC for a group of ten friends, many of whom had never been to the city. Having Lora’s expertise guide us through the city from start to finish totally took the pressure off me or anyone else in our group to decide what to do or how to do it. Her walking route included not only key sights, but vital items like lunch (at a customized location that could accommodate multiple dietary needs), restrooms and exact subway lines and locations.
She carefully planned the entire day from Midtown to Battery Park with impeccable timing — we saw so much at a comfortable, enjoyable pace (lots of photo moments!) for the whole group and arrived at both our Broadway show and dinner reservation (restaurant also chosen by Lora) on time. Her help creating our itinerary relieved my stress of planning everything and was invaluable in creating a successful experience in NYC for our entire group.
I reached out to Lora to help me plan my three-day solo trip to New York City because I wanted the best city experience I could have in a short amount of time. I knew Lora had been to New York City many times, but more than that she talked about how much she loved the simple things about the city. The daily tasks of riding the subway, walking through a park, finding a new restaurant. I knew she could be trusted with making helpful suggestions beyond the typical touristy ideas.
She gave me an easy to follow explanation of how to get from the airport to my hotel; she gave me both the fastest option and the most adventurous option. She also grouped her recommendations into areas, instead of giving me a list of things to do spread out all over the city. She made sure to include a range of experiences (food, parks, unique sights) which maximized my time and gave me the feel of what it is to live like a local. A few months after my trip, I ended up moving to NYC and I sort of blame Lora for that!
My husband was in New York for business so we went a few days early and explored the city using Lora’s suggestions. Then while he was in meetings I followed Lora’s ideas step by step and had such a fun time exploring the city on my own. I felt much more confident because I had Lora’s suggestions on my phone to follow. I could navigate the subway, bus, and walking the streets of New York with because I had the itinerary she suggested. I didn’t expect to fall in love with the city as much as I did. I crave the cookies from the bakery Lora recommended and finding good deals on Broadway Shows in Time Square was a bonus. We can’t wait to go back!
My first experience in New York City, over 20 years ago, was overwhelming. Lora’s help gave me the confidence to approach the city again. She answered all my travel questions like how to navigate the subway, the best way to buy Broadway tickets and helped me figure out what was worth doing based on the things I like to do. I explored places I’d never been and tried foods that have now become favorites! With Lora’s suggestions, I was able to see and experience the city in a whole new way—and have already been back to visit again!
Two weeks before an international trip, we found out our flight home included a layover in NYC. I wondered if it would be possible to see the Statue of Liberty or maybe Ground Zero in a seven-hour layover. I connected with Lora to ask for her help and she said we could do a lot in that amount of time and she steered us in a completely different direction. Lora told us where to store our luggage at the airport, gave us a list of suggested items to have in a backpack and encouraged us to take a taxi into the city.
She gave us detailed directions which gave us the confidence to navigate a big city on our own. Instead of going to just one place we explored many places … We didn’t plan to ice skate but when we came upon Rockefeller Center we couldn’t resist! Also, I never would have thought to go in to the New York Public Library and yet we spent over an hour there.
What seemed huge and overwhelming quickly became comfortable and exciting … We can’t wait to have Lora help us plan another, much longer trip.
